Apple MacBook: Smaller Chargers Soon?

Our modern laptops today are true concentrates of technology, in increasingly compact chassis. However, one element is often lacking on this point, the charger.

If laptop manufacturers are working hard to make machines ever more compact and lighter, there would probably be some way to go about a must-have laptop accessory, namely the charger. And Apple could just work on the subject right now.

GaN chargers for MacBooks coming soon?

Today, the majority of laptop chargers, at Apple and elsewhere, could easily be compared to bricks. These are imposing, heavy accessories that are not really practical to transport. That being said, this is a limitation imposed by existing technologies. But that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to do anything about it. Apple customers may soon end up with MacBooks equipped with much more compact chargers.

This is what DigiTimes thinks

Indeed, according to a report from DigiTimes, Apple is looking to switch to GaN chargers. This would make it possible to offer smaller, lighter chargers that generate less heat than current chargers.

For those of you who don’t know, most current chargers use silicon components. For the simple reason that silicon is a very good conductor of electricity, compared to the materials used before, and because it is also inexpensive. That being said, there are some limitations, the main one being the one that bothers us right now, namely the measurements of the charger in question.

GaN chargers, meanwhile, have been gaining popularity in recent years. They use technology that is more efficient than silicon to conduct electricity. This allows the latter to pass through more easily and quickly, causing the assembly to heat less than silicon. So that could make it possible to get a charger for a laptop computer like the MacBook that is small enough to fit in a pocket. At the moment, this is just a rumor like so many others. It is difficult to know if the information is true and even less to know when the Cupertino company could offer such chargers for its machines.
